Why I want to meet nicolasc
So she can give me that real kiss on the cheek !
And if I can organise the fine wines, and the Belgian chocolates, get the right sort of music going in the background, dim the lighting…

Emiliakaarina is just bloody brilliant ! She has outstanding taste in music, her posts are always interesting and her hair never fails to impress me. Especially when it’s green ;-)
I can’t believe I’m sharing a list with Billy Corgan and Tim Burton ! I am seriously chuffed !

Outrageously pretty, exceptionally well-read, a truly kind soul, excellent taste in music, a fantastic sense of humour and a close personal friend of Mr T.
How could I seriously not want to meet her ?

Ok, if a booksigning in Waterstones (five books under my arm) counts as ‘meeting’ Iain Banks, then I guess I’ve met him.
He wasn’t exactly what I’d expected…I’d expected he’d have been escorted from somewhere behind the scenes (after a bit of schmoozing) by the staff. Instead, at bang on 1pm – when the booksigning was due to start – he came strolling through the front door as calm and relaxed as you like, with a brolly under his arm. No minions, no agents – just himself !
The tone continued – in the time I was there, there wasn’t even the vaguest hint of ego, he was very friendly, relaxed and semed totally at ease…and he quite happily signed all five of the books I had ! (On the other hand, I was totally awestruck).
I’d love to run into him in the pub someday and see what he has to say over a pint. (Though that might possibly be a whisky in his case !)

Sometimes, you’ve gotta be grateful for television : the first time I encountered Iain’s work was with the BBC adaption of “The Crow Road”. I loved the show so much it made me determined to read it. Although the show was described by Scotland’s finest as being “annoyingly better than the novel in so many ways”, I wouldn’t agree…Iain has since then been one of my favourite authors, while “The Crow Road”, “Whit” and “Canal Dreams” sit towards the top end of my Desert Island Books” list.
So, guess how excited I was when I stopped by Waterstones in Belfast this morning…and found out he was doing a booksigning there on Monday at 1pm.

It’s been a good day at Wimbledon for Jelena – though, unfortunately, it’s not in the singles event. (She was knocked out by eventual runner-up, Marion Bartoli in the fourth round).
However, she’s been powering through the mixed doubles event with Jamie Murray. The pair had two matches today, laughing and smiling their way to victory in both – at times, even breaking into laughs mid-rally. Winning their next match will see them crowned champions…fingers crossed !

It’s the first Saturday of Wimbledon – as usual, a series of rain delays being briefly interrupted by flurries of tennis.
Ana’s currently a set up against Aravane Rezai. When she slipped on a damp section of the court, the commentator noted : “She even looks good when she falls over.” Words of wisdom indeed.
She tells me she’s scary, but I don’t believe her. She seems really nice and I’d want to put smile in her eyes instead of tears.
